Payment Methods in Imsouane

Before arriving in Imsouane, it’s important to know how to manage your money. As a small coastal village, Imsouane’s economy still runs mostly on cash. Here’s everything you need to know about paying for food, accommodation, and activities during your stay.

💵 Cash Is King

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Most local businesses prefer cash payments. You’ll use cash for restaurants, taxis, surf lessons, and grocery shops.

  • Always carry small bills (20 MAD, 50 MAD, 100 MAD) – large notes may be hard to break.
  • Pay in Dirhams only – euros or dollars are rarely accepted.
  • Exchange money in Agadir or Essaouira before arrival for the best rates.

🏧 ATM Availability

Imsouane has limited banking infrastructure. Depending on the season, there may be only one functioning ATM in town, and sometimes it runs out of cash.

  • Withdraw cash in Agadir, Essaouira, or Tamri before traveling.
  • Keep a small emergency fund in case the ATM is empty.
  • Most ATMs accept Visa and MasterCard cards.

💳 Paying by Card

Only a few places in Imsouane accept credit or debit cards, usually surf resorts or higher-end restaurants.

  • Hotels and surf camps sometimes accept card payments with an additional fee (2–3%).
  • Small cafés and markets operate on cash only.
  • Internet connection can affect card machines, so always have backup cash.

💰 Mobile Payment & Transfers

Mobile payment apps like “Inwi Money” or “CIH Pay” are available in Morocco, but not widely used in Imsouane yet.

  • Ask your host if they accept bank transfer or PayPal for deposits.
  • Surf schools may let you pay online for packages.

💡 Money-Saving Tips

  • Pay in cash to get better prices at local shops.
  • Keep your money in different pockets for safety.
  • Check exchange rates before coming to avoid tourist-area fees.

In short, bring enough cash and enjoy a stress-free stay. Once you’ve paid for your accommodation and surf lessons, there’s not much to spend on—just delicious food, great waves, and unforgettable sunsets.
